Why can't I import audio files into Windows Movie Maker?

Make sure it's an mp3 file or a WMV. If it is, and everything else is right, Windows Movie Maker is known to have bugs and glitches in random areas at random times. It happens to me a lot. Just download the latest version at Microsoft.com *Windows Movie Maker 2*
