They did some good things. You are correct. They did raise awareness and prodded our sluggish society to go forward in social progression. But to be fair, many things you state were also pushed forward by folks who hardly fit the hippie image. Staid lawyers, grim social workers, union members, and priests, nuns and Christian lay people. None of whom got stoned or wore tie dyed clothes or had long hair. It was a joint societal effort and it made us better, fairer, and stronger.
