Can a team forfeit games on purpose?

It's illegal, and heavy fines and suspensions would follow, but you can't stop someone from not doing something they don't want to do. If the manager tells his team to not show up for the game and they all don't show up, what can the umpires do? With that being said, no team would ever attempt this because not only would they be punished, but they would lose fan interest and ticket sales as a result.
